Over the years, students across District 186 have made special memories of Dr. Jordan stopping by their classrooms to share a favorite book. And if you know Dr. Jordan, you also know one of his favorite book friends is Pete the Cat! He likes to say Pete keeps things groovy while teaching a few important life lessons along the way.

Today was an extra special reading day at Ridgely Elementary! Dr. Jordan surprised our kindergarteners with a reading of Pete and the Cookie Catastrophe. But the surprises didn't stop with the story. His good friend Pete the Cat showed up with cookies to share with everyone! Hip, hip, hooray! 🍪

There were smiles, warm hugs and plenty of laughter as students enjoyed their special visitors. Pete also made his way to say hello to our Pre-K and first-grade friends, who were just as delighted to see him and start their day with a little extra groovy fun!

And there was one more reason to celebrate! Another special moment at Ridgely was waiting for a student selected as the winner of the United Way drawing. Today's big prize? Getting to be Principal for the Day! From delivering the morning announcements to having a desk of their very own in the principal's office, this student got to experience a day in the life of a school leader!

Congratulations, Principal Jones! What a fantastic day filled with special surprises, big smiles and memories that will last a lifetime.

Between a visit from Pete the Cat, cookies to share and a student stepping into the principal's chair, Ridgely certainly had a whole lot of groovy happening today! 💙
